Cloning a Record

In many data entry windows, there is a [Clone] button at the bottom left of the screen. This lets you make an exact copy of all data entry fields. Once you press the [Clone] button you are no longer working on the original record; you are working on a copy or clone of the record. So, if you save the record, you are saving a new record which was cloned from the original. So the original remains untouched.

To maintain data integrity, it may be necessary to change certain fields before you are allowed to save the record. This is usually the ID field.

For example, when you clone a Product you are creating an exact duplicate in all respects, except for the Product ID field, which must be unique. So when you clone a product, you will need to enter a unique Product ID before you can save it.

If the source record contains related records, these are not cloned. For example, when you clone a contact, you do not clone the source contact’s activities.
