Bar Code Applications

Simple Accounting comes with two fonts for printing bar codes; USPS PostNet for printing zip codes, and Code 3 of 9 for printing product labels. There are several ways to use bar codes in Simple Accounting. And all are very easy to do:

Address Mail All label and envelope printing will include the Postnet® bar code. This not only speeds delivery of your letters, but, if used in a bulk mailing, can reduce your per letter cost by over 25%.
Label Packages Packing labels can be formatted with Code 3of 9 bar codes, so you or your client can scan their packages into and out of inventory.

And, since Simple Accounting is compatible with any Windows compatible bar code reader that outputs ASCII keycodes, you can use your bar code reader at any point in the program where you would otherwise have to type in a Product ID.

Speed Inventory Counts In large warehouses, your employees can also use self-powered combination readers/input devices to scan cartons and enter a count at the same time. When the employee returns to the office, their reader can automatically download the Product IDs and counts into their PC in one step. This reallysaves time when taking inventory.

Installing Bar Code Fonts

The included USPS PostNet® and Code 3 of 9 fonts are copied to your Simple Accounting folder when you install SAFE but must still be installed in the Windows Font folder in order to print. Here is how you do this:

  1. Click on the Windows Start button at the lower left of your screen.
  2. Select Settings, then Control Panel.
  3. From the Control Panel, double click on Fonts.
  4. When the Fonts window appears, click on FILE|Install New Fonts
  5. Click on the Simple Accounting folder (usually \SIMPLE). Windows will take a moment to locate the fonts that come with Simple Accounting.
  6. You should now see two fonts in the large window: USPS and Code 3of9.
  7. Click on the [Select All] button.
  8. Click on [Ok] to install the fonts.
  9. Exit the Control Panel. You’re done!
