Keyboard Shortcuts

The following keystrokes are used throughout Simple Accounting.

combination of either the Ctrl or the Alt key and another key. So for example, when the shortcut given is <Ctrl+T> we mean that you should do the following:

Press and hold down the <Ctrl> key while tapping the letter ‘t’ once, then release both keys.)

Simple Accounting is very non-mouse friendly. There is a keyboard equivalent for virtually everything one can do with the mouse. Any field, button or tab which has an underlined character can be selected by pressing <Alt> and the underlined letter. For example, to move the cursor to the NAME field in a data entry window you would press <Alt+N>. If there is more than one field or button with the same underlined character, pressing <Alt> plus that key will switch between them.

General

<NumLock> Toggle Numbers/Cursor Arrows on keypad
<Esc> Cancel the current operation. No matter where you are in this program, pressing <Esc> will undo what you are working on and return you to where you were before you started that task. As such, it is probably the most important keystroke to know!
<F1> Context Sensitive Help. A close second in importance to <Esc>.
<Ctrl+P> Turns print-preview on or off.
Ctrl+Alt+W Restores a window to it’s default size and position.
<MouseRight> Click the right mouse button once to activate certain functions specific to window you are working in. For example, in most browse boxes, a pop-up menu appears to let you Insert, Change or Delete records.

Browse Boxes

These keystrokes help you navigate through browse boxes without a mouse:

<Ctrl +Spacebar> Tag (or Untag) a record in a browse window
<Ctrl+L> Jump to the Locator field.
<Ctrl+R> Removes one character from the value in the Locator field and refreshes the browse. This is very simple and very, very useful; it just soundsconfusing. An example is perhaps the best way to make it’s purpose clear.Ex: Let’s say you are searching for a Product ID you believe begins with ‘115’ but the Locator shows no records. If you press <Ctrl+R> the Locator changes to ’11’ which then shows all records beginning with ’11’. You instantly see that the Product you want is actually ‘1115…’
<Ctrl+Shift+L Reset the browse box to it’s default order and clear the Locator field
<Ctrl+Shift+R Insert the value of the currently selected row into the Locator from the sort column. This automatically refreshes the browse with records matching that value.
<Ins> Insert a new record into a browse window
<Del> Delete an existing record from a browse window
<Enter> Edit or view the selected record in detail
<PgUp> Scroll backward one screen of records
<PgDn> Scroll forward one screen of records
<Ctrl+Home> Go to the first record in the browse
<Ctrl+End> Go to the last record in the browse
<Down> Move forward one record in the browse
<Up> Move backward one record in the browse
<Left> Move left one field
<Right> Move right one field
