Troubleshooting
Help System Does Not Work
When I click on any of the Help items from the Main Menu, nothing happens.
This can sometimes happen if you are using Simple Accounting on a network due to a long-standing bug in Windows. There are a three workarounds:
- In Windows make sure you set your workstation’s PATH to include the network location of SAFE. It depends on your version of Windows but this is usually done with the following steps:
- Right click on My Computer and select Properties
- Go to Advanced Settings.
- Select Environment Variables.
- Under ‘System Variables’ you’ll see a PATH variable. At the end, append a semi-colon and then the network path to your Simple Accounting directory.
- Save.
- You can also simply copy the file SAFE.CHM (located in your network Simple Accounting directory) to your computer’s personal directory (typically this will be something like C:/Users/
). The only down side is that you’ll need to do this -again- every time we update Simple Accounting. - Finally, you can always go to our Documentation Portal This is where we now keep the most up to date help files, including all articles on troubleshooting and procedural how-tos. We recommend bookmarking that page and adding it as a shortcut on your Windows Desktop.
