This portion of Simple Accounting is basically concerned with all customer-based transactions. This means, Customers, Sales Orders, Payments, and some related topics such as Sales Taxes (and reports) and Commissions (and reports).
Since Simple Accounting is a highly integrated program, there are also a number of topics which you may have traditionally considered to belong someplace else, such as the Accounts Payable or Purchasing sections of the program. They are discussed here because SAFE allows you to perform many of these functions directly from within a Sales Order. These include:
- Creating Purchase Orders for items to be manufactured specifically for a customer’s ordered (typical for imprinted or other ‘brokered’ items).
- Receiving items from these Purchase Orders directly into your warehouse
- Posting the costs from any Sales Order directly into Accounts Payable.
If this seems like a lot, well, you’re right it is! And in fact, you will probably spend roughly half of your time using SAFE within the Sales Order Browse which is the core of Simple Accounting. Therefore we will spend quite a bit of time in this section of the documentation discussing many connected topics. However, once you get the hang of the Sales Order Browse, you will find that you are able to perform many, previously repetitive and time-consuming tasks in less time than you had previously thought possible.
This section begins with a discussion of setting up Customers, Employees (Sales Representatives and CSRS) and Sales Tax IDs
We then jump into the basics of Sales Orders, Sites (which are critical to inventory control) and then discuss the workflow which takes every Sales Order from a Quote (or Purchase Order) to a billable Sales Invoice.
We conclude by discussing several related accounting topics: Payments & Credits, Commissions, and Statements.
