Hold Off On Internet Explorer 10
March 17, 2013 :
Internet Explorer 10, which is included in Windows 8 is now being pushed out to Windows 7 users via Windows Update. We want to stress (again) that we do not recommend that you install IE10 at this time. Microsoft has already released several ’emergency’ security fixes and we expect more before the dust settles. The benefits of IE10 are not worth the potential holes for most users—especially typical office workers. If you are a ‘power user’ and are extremely careful, it’s worth looking at, but not on a machine connected to your main network.
On most systems, the default setting for Windows Update to automatically install the new version is unchecked. However, many of you are getting this setting checked, in other words, you need to uncheck the selections. We recommend (as always) that you ‘check what is checked’ before you hit the ‘Install’ button! If your updates are handled by a script, or from an IT provider, we strongly encourage that you double-check with them that IE10 will not accidentally show up on your office desktops until the program has passed a few more update cycles.
