This week, seventeen years and four Red Wing Stanley Cups ago, Suntower Systems was born. From our humble beginnings (like many of you, we had delusions of controlling our own destiny!) we now have three offices (Seattle; Detroit; Dublin, Eire) and over thirty full time employees.
To thank all our customers for their support over the years, we have a special idea in mind: no it's not a free golf vacation for 'one lucky winner', but, hopefully something a bit more practical (and of benefit to more of you!). What we propose is a discount on Premium Support.
Despite reports of recession, depression, and so on, quite to the contrary, many of you are doing just fine and have even grown this past year. We'd like to think we had a small part in making this possible.
But there's a problem: As you grow, you have to start thinking in terms of a true Information Technology structure and not just 'some computers on a network'. Many of you have outgrown our normal support scheme. Your operations have grown to the point that you need guaranteed response times and priority with custom programming, web projects, e-commerce and on and on. In short, you need more help and you need it pronto. We can help. So, here's the offer:
1. If you are currently on our regular Remote Support schedule you can upgrade to Premium Support
2. If you are already at Premium Support
3. If you are note quite ready for Premium Support
More On SAFE 5.1:
WebHelp!
As we've been saying, there really are a lot of new
features in SAFE 5.1This update has no earthshaking new things, but in addition
to the usual bug fixes, there are a number of small, but useful improvements. Here are
some highlights:
Package Quantity Check! |
You will be able to specify that the Order or Ship Quantity of a Product ID must be a proper multiple of the item's packaging quantity. In other words, if the order is for business cards that are sold in blocks of 250, SAFE will warn you if you try to order 900 cards total. Again, this warning may be overridden during Order Entry or you may specify (in SASE) that it be locked to prevent any overrides. |
Automatic Price Break Updates! |
You will be able to enter the starting number for each Site on a particular Product. For example, an order of checks, shipped to five locations, can now be tracked with a separate starting and ending number for each branch. |
Summary A/P Invoices!! |
You can now select vendors whose bills will automatically be summarized during the Auto-Posting from Sales Orders! For example, you could select UPS and SAFE will automatically lump all charges for UPS onto a single A/P invoice. When it comes time to pay (daily or weekly) all bills are together in a single transaction awaiting payment! |
SASE: |
A new option has
been added for those editing source transactions (A/P Bills, F/M Transactions, Payments,
etc) from prior periods. This feature is global, meaning that it is turned off or on for all users in SAFE. |
Customized E-Mail Acknowledgements! |
The acknowledging e-mails, which are generated when an order is submitted by an end- user, may now be customized, either by you or us. For example, you could add your logo, different fonts, or text indicating special offers. If this is an order with custom imprinting, the e-mail content might include the text that the user typed in---sort of a Proof. |
Batch E-Mails! |
Your End User Administrator can now generated batch e-mails, informing all users of important events. Create your message in our text editor, or any program that can generate HTML. Send the message to all users, individuals Sites or Cost Centers using our Query Window to target just the groups you want. Batch e-mails may also include attachments. |
HTML-Based On-Line Help System! |
Our new HTMLHelp System will debut. The on-line help will be available not only on your local system, but from your Internet Browser! No need to download revisions to our help system---a completely searchable text that is always up to date will be only a click away, including the latest tutorials and demos! |
SASE: |
You can now go into SASE and send an a Broadcast Message which automatically pops up on all user's screens within SAFE! |
As always, SAFE 5.1 will be free to current Remote Support Subscription customers. Users of earlier versions of SAFE 4.2a may upgrade for $1,295. SAFE users who do not have a current Remote Support Subscription will also be required to purchase a new block at the prevailing rate.
All eligible users will receive an e-mail with complete instructions on how to obtain SAFE 5.0 the minute the update is ready for downloading!
But Wait, There's
More!
There are many more features
and improvements to SAFE, such as improvements to ThinSAFE and Ollie which we will be only too happy to
impart to you, next time. Get all the details now at www.suntowersystems.com/whatnext.htm
Ciaran's
Corner: More Patching
OK, I promised not to rant
about Microsoft this year, but please if you are running Windows 2000 and Internet Information
Server IIS you should download the following security patches now! This cumulative patch fixes ten security vulnerabilities with the
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Web server. The worst of those can allow
attackers to run any code they want on an unpatched machine. The patches span Windows NT,
2000, and XP and IIS versions 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1. This important patch should be installed
on all machines which run the Microsoft Web server ASAP. Do it either manually or via
Windows Update. The security advisory has more details:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/ms02-018.asp
Now for longterm relief, I also suggest you install a new program from Microsoft
called Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA). This program, developed by MS to avoid
the constant screams of those who never know just how vulnerable their systems are, will
automatically scan all machines on your network and tell you precisely which updates and
patches are missing and where to get them (it doesn't actually install them for you; you
still have to do that yourself.) Get MBSA at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/tools/mbsahome.asp
Til Next Time!
