Mapping a Drive Letter Using Microsoft Networking

Microsoft Networking does not automatically assign a drive letter to each resource (server drive or printer) you can connect to. But Simple Accounting needs a drive letter to locate the data on a server. To accomplish this, you can map a drive letter to a resource in Network Neighborhood once, then each time you access that resource thereafter, Windows will automatically assign the same drive letter to that resource.

Procedure

At the workstation, do the following:

  1. Start the Windows Network program.
  2. Select the server and then the resource (drive) on that server where Simple Accounting data can be found.
  3. Right click on the folder and select ‘Map Network Drive’
  4. Select a drive letter from the list box and check the ‘Reconnect At Log On’ box.
  5. Press [Ok].

From now on the drive letter you chose will automatically point to the drive Simple Accounting is located on.
